Tooth Gems FAQs

Q: Will a tooth gem damage my teeth, will it lower my enamel and cause tooth decay?
A: It won’t stain your teeth. Or damage them in any way. Doesn’t cause tooth decay unless you wear them for years and years, which never happens. Only last the most about 6 months. What is used for the tooth gems is the same if not as close as what is used for braces.

Q:How are tooth gems attached?
A: The gem is glued with a dental composite glue and the bonding procedure is the same that an orthodontist uses to attach braces, which leaves the tooth intact and allows an easy removal. The adhesive is applied to the tooth, the gem set in place and light cured for 60 seconds to harden the composite.

Q: What is a tooth gem?
A: is a rhinestone jewel that attaches to the visible surface of a front tooth. They are a type of cosmetic treatment and allow the patient the ability to create a unique smile. Tooth jewelry is considered to be temporary and not intended to wear on a permanent basis. The gem is nonremovable and securely fixed to the tooth, and the removal process is safe and easy by your dentist.

Q: How long does tooth gems last?
A: Tooth Gem is not considered to be a permanent cosmetic treatment, but it is instead only worn for temporary periods of time; most patients wear their tooth gem for six months to as long as two years. Each gem should remain in good condition long-term as long as the patient practices good oral hygiene and is able to avoid dental trauma.

Q: Can I feel the tooth gem on my tooth?
A: The tooth gem shines bright and reflects its beauty in an elegant way. However, it is small, and the patient does not feel it while it is worn. The gem is typically about half of a millimeter thick and two to three millimeters in diameter. The gem may be noticeable for the first few days, but patients typically adjust quickly and do not feel it.

Q: Can I still have my teeth cleaned and whitened with a tooth gem?
A: Yes, patients are still able to have their teeth cleaned and whitened while they are wearing their tooth gem, and they should continue to visit the dentist for a cleaning every four to six months.

Q: Will my oral care regimen be more difficult with a tooth gem?
A: Since the gem is small, it does not impede the patient’s ability to care for their teeth enamel by brushing and flossing. The gem also does not harm the tooth in any way. Of course, to maintain the best smile possible, it is important to keep teeth clean and avoid foods that can cause stains.
